Teen girl dies after tubing accident in Lake Seminole

Posted: Updated:
SEMINOLE, FL (WFLA) -

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said the 15-year-old girl died from injuries she received after a tube she was riding in collided with a personal watercraft in Lake Seminole on Monday afternoon.

Deputies say Katie Yale and 13-year-old Aubree Franz were riding in towable tubes being pulled behind a boat driven by 44-year-old Douglas Yale when they collided with a Sea Doo personal watercraft driven by 21-year-old Ryan Godcharles.

Detectives say Katie Yale and Franz were both taken to a local hospital. They say Yale suffered life threatening injuries and Franz had minor injuries. Yale died Tuesday morning from her injuries.

Detectives also say Godcharles did not suffer any injuries and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
