CLYDE, N.C. -

The police chief in the Haywood County town of Clyde has been suspended for five days.

Members of the Clyde Board of Aldermen plan to meet Wednesday to discuss the status of Police Chief Gerard Ball.

Town Administrator Joy Garland says Ball was suspended for five days Friday. Garland said she could not explain the reason for the suspension.

Capt. Mike Lindsay has been running the department while Ball was suspended.

Ball was hired in July of last year. He replaced Derek Dendy, who was fired in January of 2012.
