Cost of Obamacare

Posted: Updated:

You can begin purchasing a health insurance plan in North Carolina’s state marketplace beginning October 1st.

Those plans will go into effect January 2014 but if you don’t have insurance through your employer and you don’t buy one in the state marketplace, you will face a penalty.

Avalere Health, a private analysis company, studied the average cost for people in the United States buying market place insurance. And found some surprising numbers.

AGE       MONTHLY COST

21           $270

40           $330

60           $615

Manhattan Institute for Policy Research looked at a few costs based on individual states.  In North Carolina they found the numbers to be more costly for women.

Men/AGE            MONTHLY COST                Women/AGE     MONTHLY COST

As for how much it will cost you if you choose to take a penalty, so far next year’s numbers are shaping up as follows.
