SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Church services are canceled on Sunday morning after a church catches fire during Sunday school.

According to Pastor Jerry Jones, of First Temple Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher noticed sparks shooting from the wall just after 10 a.m. and immediately began evacuating the building. Within minutes, Jones found his church surrounded by more than a half dozen Spartanburg County fire trucks.

20 people made it out of the building safely according to Jones, however, Assistant Fire Chief of the Roebuck Fire District, Jeff Bagwell, said that there's "significant damage in the building". When asked about the extent of the damage, Bagwell replied, that the building is "uninhabitable".

"At this point, we're going to trust in God" said Jones.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and church services have been canceled for today.
