Greenville City Council will take up a discussion on a possible texting while driving ban within the city limits.

A spokeswoman for the city said that city council members will be discussing the potential ban during a workshop on September 30. However, she added that no legislative action will be taken during the workshop, but instead there will be a initial discussion over the issue and what future steps could be implemented.

One council member told 7 On Your Side that there have been internal discussions about the problem for several weeks and it is a serious public safety that needs to be dealt with. The council member further stated that distracted driving is an epidemic, but the legality and enforcement are critical factors when dealing with it.
