A group of 80 World War II veterans will depart from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport to Washington, D.C., on the Honor Flight from Upstate South Carolina this morning.

The veterans will start boarding the flight to Washington beginning at 7 a.m. and will depart at 9 am. These WWII veterans are the special honorees of the eleventh Honor Flight from Upstate South Carolina (HFU). The group, accompanied by one hundred guardians, doctors, nurses, support staff, and media, will visit the World War II, Vietnam, Korean and Marine Corps War Memorials in addition to viewing the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.

This flight marks the 300th for US Airways, the original charter for Honor Flight. Additional highlights for this trip include the largest number of African American veterans and female veterans that HFU has taken to date.

The group will return to GSP at 8pm! People are urged to come to the airport tonight to welcome them back.
