ANDERSON, SC -

An Anderson County woman is recovering after a successful kidney transplant surgery Wednesday at a hospital in Charleston.

Our coverage partners at the Anderson Independent-Mail report a spokesman with Medical University of South Carolina says Jimmie Sue Swilling of Starr is in good condition after the surgery.

Swilling's husband, Larry, tells the Independent-Mail her doctors were pleased with the surgery.

The couple made national news when 78-year-old Larry Swilling walked around downtown Anderson wearing a sign asking for potential donors to help her 76 year old wife, who was born with just one kidney and has been suffering from ailments related to kidney problems for several years.

About 2,000 willing donors came forward according to Larry, but a suitable match wasn't found until recently.
