Some Peace alumni not happy with direction of the school

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

A year after William Peace University went began to admit male students, some alumni aren't happy with the direction they believe the school is going.

Some alumni said their discontent with the school isn't solely about the college going co-ed but there are other issues.

Real estate purchases like that of Seaboard Station bother alumni who said their donations should go to students and not to investments. This purchase has prompted some alumni to stop donating to the school.

"The situation with Seaboard, which is it?" said former President of the Alumni Board, Karen Sinclair. "They say they need space for expansion but on the other hand they want to keep it as a retail shopping center."

The school said those alumni are out of touch and need to see the school in its current state.

Jenny Peacock, director of admissions at Peace said, "We really invest a lot in our students. Not only in creating majors that students want but making sure we maintain the campus and maintain the classrooms and also provide technology they can utilize today."

Sinclair also thinks many decisions, like the one to purchase Seaboard Station, have become too secretive.

"The alumni and even donors really haven't been in on those decisions or even brought into the discussion about the direction of the college," Sinclair said.

But the school said it can't always be transparent with its choices.

"We are as transparent as we can be," Peacock said. "Some things we discuss or we don't discuss in public."
