Greenville City Council Considers Texting Ban

Posted: Updated:

Greenville City Council is in the early stages of deciding whether to enact a texting ban. It would make texting while driving illegal on any city roads.

Greenville is not the first city to consider banning texting on its roads. Clemson passed a texting while driving ban in 2010. The Clemson Police Department tells us since it passed they've written 12 tickets, but have seen a decline in accidents.

Council will discuss the ban in a workshop on September 30th. Council members will be discussing how to enforce a texting ban, what kind of fine offenders should face, and whether to add a hands free law as well.

  • Do you think the city of Greenville should have a texting and driving ban?
