Miss SC Apologizes for "Insensitive" Comment about Palmetto State

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

Miss South Carolina has apologized for the way she introduced herself -- and her state -- during Sunday night's Miss America Pageant.

In the event televised on ABC, Ms. Brooke Mosteller introduced herself by saying, "I'm from the state where 20 percent of our homes are mobile because that’s how we roll."

U.S. Census data shows 17.9% of the state's population live in mobile homes.

On Tuesday, Mosteller and The Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization issued an apology via e-mail that read in part:

"The introductory statement for Miss South Carolina Brooke Mosteller was decided collectively with the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization in an attempt to be creative and humorous. We regret this was perceived as insensitive and we apologize to our fellow South Carolinians who may have been offended."

The statement, which was signed by Mosteller and the Miss SC Executive Director Ashley Byrd, went on to say, "South Carolina is an amazing place with its loving people, resplendent history, positive business climate, vibrant culture, and beautiful natural resources," though she didn't mention any of that when she was on national television.

    Anderson County Fire, HAZMAT, EMS and Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a powdery substance found in a mailbox in Iva Sunday. 
    According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, a call came in about a person locating a powder in a mailbox on Continent Road.Once crews arrived on scene, it was determined that the substance had no biological threat.
