Truck loaded with tomatoes catches fire, stalls interstate traffic

UNICOI COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

One lane of Interstate 26 Eastbound is still closed after a tractor trailer loaded with tomatoes caught fire this afternoon.

The call for help came in around 2:59 p.m..

The truck pulled off to the side of the road at mile marker 45 near Exit 46 and the Tennessee Welcome Center.

No one was hurt.

THP said a representative from the Department of Agriculture was called in to inspect the truck which was destroyed by the fire.

THP said it hoped to re-open all lanes of I-26 East by 11 p.m..

 


 

Traffic is backed up on Interstate 26 in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 45 in Unicoi County.

Dispatchers at The Tennessee Highway Patrol say a tractor trailer caught fire.

There are no reported injuries. Drivers are urged to use caution in that area.
