WALHALLA, S.C. -

Walhalla Mayor Danny Edwards told city council members in a meeting Tuesday the city needs to do more to enforce the city's ordinances dealing with nuisances.

Our coverage partners at the Anderson Independent Mail report Edwards says in a recent drive around the city he saw cars in yards he says had "no tags and not in running condition" and some abandoned houses he says "looking ready to fall in."

Edwards says the city also needed to do more with the upkeep of rental housing grandfathered when the city adopted building codes and was beyond ordinary inspection.

The Independent Mail reports Edwards says the city codes officer was doing a good job, but the city needed to give him more tools to do his job.
