A soldier from Macon County has died in Afghanistan in what the Department of Defense is calling a non-combat incident. 

According to a release, Sgt. William D. Brown III, 44, of Franklin, N.C., died September 19, in Laghman Province, Afghanistan. His death is under investigation.

Brown was assigned to the 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team and 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) based out of Fort Polk, Louisiana.
