"Within the next 30 days or so, they'll be arriving in Afghanistan" said North Carolina National Guard Captain Rick Scoggins. According to Scoggins, the men and women celebrated inside of the Haywood Community College's auditorium, will be heading to Fort Bliss in Texas for some additional training before heading to the Middle East.

"It's not fun at all" said Connor Howard of Charlotte, a brother of one of those being deployed. It's sad. When they leave it's sad, but once they get back, it's happier than you've ever been."

The deployment will mark the second time that Unit 211 has been deployed to Afghanistan since 2002. However, the unit has been deployed domestically to assist with operations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in 2012.
