NC Supreme Court will review whether Brad Cooper should get new trial

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The North Carolina Supreme Court will hear the Attorney General's appeal of the Appeals Court ruling that Brad Cooper should get a new murder trial in the death of his wife.

The appeals court granted Cooper a new trial earlier in the death of his wife, Nancy.

The attorney general's office has claimed a review by the state Supreme Court is appropriate because the decision is one of significant public interest and involves a victim and defendant from another state (Canada).

Cooper was found guilty in May 2011 of first-degree murder in Nancy Cooper's July 2008 death. Cooper claimed his wife went out for a jog and never returned.

Her body was later found in a ditch.

The N.C. Appeals court granted Cooper a new trial after his attorneys argued that based that a Google Map search could have been done by someone using Cooper's laptop.
