DUNCAN, S.C. -

An Upstate man is charged with ill treatment of animals, following an argument than escalated into violence.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says Brian Thomas Oliver was arguing with a woman, when he pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot her dog. The woman put the dog in the car, gathered her belongings, and left.

However, once in the car, police say she noticed her 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier was bleeding from the mouth. She flagged down a Sheriff's deputy for assistance. However, the help didn't come in time to save the dog.

Greenville Animal Care Services performed a necropsy, locating two BB's on the dog's left side. As a result, Oliver was arrested.
