Moped Accident Kills Joanna Man In Laurens County

One person is dead after a accident involving a moped in Laurens County.

Corporal Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that the wreck happened at 8:23 p.m. Thursday night on Highway 76 at Bethlehem Church Road near Clinton.

According to Rhyne, the unidentified driver of a moped was seriously injured during a collision with a SUV. The driver, from Joanna, was transported to Laurens County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Rhyne stated. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.

The driver of the SUV, a 24-year-old woman from Clinton, and a passenger in her car were not injured. The victim's identity has not been released pending family notification.

Rhyne said the accident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol's M.A.I.T. unit.
