SALEM, SC -

The Oconee County dive team has recovered the body of a 77 year old Salem man on Lake Keowee. Coroner Karl Addis says the death Saturday night appears to have happened while Robert Bruce Graffis was in the process of launching his fishing boat near the ramp located at Marina Drive within the Keowee Key development.

Addis says the Graffis was reported missing around 6:45 p.m. by his family after he was reported missing. The coroner’s office says that Graffis left his home around 2:00 p.m. Saturday to return his fishing boat back to a boat slip at Keowee Key marina. The car with the boat trailer attached was found by his wife parked at the boat ramp where investigators estimate he had launched the boat between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.

Crews on the scene located the boat along the shoreline at 9:25 p.m. Saturday. The dive team discovered Graffis’ body at 10:15 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the cause of death.

The coroner's office reminds boaters and those working on the water that it is important to wearing a life jacket.
