JOBS: Spartanburg Amazon Hiring 1K Seasonal Employees

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -

Amazon.com, Inc. is hiring more than 1,000 full-time seasonal employees for its distribution center in Spartanburg County.

A company spokesman says it part of the online retailer’s plans to create at least 70,000 temporary positions nationwide this holiday season. That's a 40 percent increase in the number of seasonal workers compared to 2012.

“If you don't have a job and you're trying to find one, it’s a good way to jump start your career,” said jobseeker Paul Thompson.

Many of the positions Amazon is currently hiring could eventually become permanent after the shopping rush, according to a press release.

“They have definitely helped, I believe, the Spartanburg area tremendously with employment,” according to Lindsay Bruce with Goodwill Job Connection.

Seasonal employees could earn up to $11.50 an hour and are eligible for health care benefits.
