Walhalla Mom Charged With Not Returning Kids To Dad

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. -
An Oconee County mother has been booked into jail after she was charged with not returning her four daughters to their father.

Laverne Marie Bennett, 44, of Walhalla was wanted on four charges of custodial interference in July according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say Bennett picked up her four daughters from their fathers residence over the 4th of July weekend, but did not return them to their father as scheduled on July 7.

Bennett was later found by Idaho State Police on July 13 in Coeur d'Alene near the Washington state line at a picnic table at a rest area off the interstate.

Bennett was taken into custody and was just returned to South Carolina following extradition proceedings.

She was returned to Oconee County by U.S. Marshalls where she had a bond hearing Tuesday morning.

Bennett is being held on a $20,000 surety bond at the county detention center.
