Deputies evacuated the Henderson County Courthouse Monday after a suspicious briefcase turned up.

The courthouse reopened after 3:00 p.m.

The Henderson Co. Sheriff's Office says a man was trying to bring a briefcase wrapped in plastic through a security checkpoint. The man said he was trying to deliver the briefcase to an office in the courthouse. When the case was x-rayed it was "inconclusive."

The man did not make any threats and told the officers what was supposed to be in the case.

Stout says they called in the bomb squad to be safe. The courthouse was evacuated and a robot removed the case from the courthouse.

The robot discovered a tape recorder wrapped in heavy plastic inside the briefcase.

Deputies tell 7 On Your Side that even though the robots rarely find anything dangerous when they're called, it's important to respond.

"You cannot be too careful in this day in time with things that have been going on," Major Frank Stout said.
