Arrest Made In Azalea Apartments Fire

ANDERSON, SC -

Matthew Lawrence Collett, age 33 was arrested Sunday morning and charged with 2 fires in Anderson County.

According to Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson, Collett is charged with Arson 3rd degree for Azalea Apartments fire and could face up to 15 yrs in prison plus an additional charge of attempted murder.

He's also charged in the March 30, 2013 fire at 1098 Cartee Rd. Which resulted in the death of Billy Frank Cheeck. Cheeck died trying to put out the fire.

He is charge is arson 1st degree for the Cartee Rd. fire and could face 30 years.

Investigators say they have evidence that put Collett at both fires.
 
Collett could have more charges in the future.

Investigators say evidence uncovered at the Azalea Apartments fire linked him to the Cartee Rd. Fire.

Thirty families were left homeless after the Azalea Apartments fire on August 19.
