Firefighters Teach Children About the Dangers of Kitchen Fires

Posted: Updated:
The number one cause of fires are started by cooking fires.

The Spartanburg Fire Department is looking to teach children how dangerous cooking fires are.

This week they will be touring the city of Spartanburg's elementary schools to do demonstrations with 3rd graders.

There firefighters teach them how burnt food or smoking grease can start fires.

They also show them to stay away 3 feet from the stove and not to distract parents while cooking.

Firefighters urge parents to keep handles inward on the stove while cooking.

These activities coincide with Fire Prevention Week.

The Spartanburg Fire Department will hold a open house this Saturday with additional information.
