Two Arrested In Chase Ending With Crash In Fountain Inn

A police chase that started over tail lights on a car being out ended in a crash in Fountain Inn Tuesday morning.

Two people have been charged:

  • Driver: Ashley Ann Smith was charged with DUI 1st, Driving Under Suspension 4th, Fail to Stop, PWID Marijuana, PWID Meth, Pss. Schedule 2 drugs, Schedule 4 drugs violation ABC (Open Container and No Seatbelt.

  • Passenger: Mitchell Harden Lyons was charged with Public Intoxication, PWID Marijuana, DWID Meth, Poss. Schedule 2 drugs, Poss. Schedule 4 drugs, violation ABC (Open Container), No Seatbelt.
Both have been booked into the Laurens County Detention Center.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports the pursuit started in Laurens County and ended in Greenville County on Fairview Street just off Interstate 85.
 
A trooper noted a 1996 gray Buick Regal traveling north on I-385 with no tail lights at 6:07 a.m.

The SCHP trooper tried to stop the car for two miles before noting the driver was traveling erratically and was swerving the car.

The pursuit continued for another 12 miles until the driver of the Buick pulled off at Fairview Street - Exit 24 - and the trooper forced the car to stop.

the car came to a stop on an embankment. Two people in the buick were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.
