An Upstate man received the hospital bill he had been waiting for since 2012.
Pat Patterson says he was sent to collections because of a $1210 bill he owed Laurens County Memorial Hospital from a week-long stay in January 2012. Pat says he never actually received the bill, just collection notices.
He reached out to 7 On Your Side for help in getting him a copy of his bill. In September, Laurens Co. Memorial told us that billing and collections involve a very complicated process and that possible errors can happen.
A hospital employee also called Pat and assured him that he would receive a bill.
Pat now tells us, he has the bill in hand and was able to work out a payment arrangement to get it settled.
If you have a question about a medical bill, first call the facility and request an itemized copy so you can see exactly what you're paying for. You can also call your insurance provider about the visit in question. And make sure to keep your explanation of benefits or EOB statement that you receive from your insurance company so you can compare that to your actual bill.
