Hundreds "Walk To School" Across Upstate Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
Students across the Upstate took part in International Walk To School Day Wednesday morning.

49 schools across Spartanburg County took part in the walk. That included a group from Pine Street Elementary School. They walked to campus from the Downtown YMCA. The students were accompanied by parents and some Wofford College student-athletes.

The idea behind the day is to promote health, safety and physical activity.

"That's a big part of it," said Dennis Regnier of Spartanburg School District 7. "In PE classes we talk about it and being safe and where to walk and how to walk. That also part of a grant we have received for our safe- route- to- school grants, to help improve our children getting to school even safe."

19 Greenville schools participated in the walk.
