WALHALLA, SC -

While trying to serve an eviction notice Tuesday, Oconee County Sheriff's deputies uncovered several shake-and-bake meth labs.

Oconee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Watt said that members of the sheriff's office Civil Unit went to evict a tenant at 615 West Springwood Drive in Oconee Estates. During the process, Watt said that deputies noticed a strange odor and called in the department's narcotics unit.

Once narcotic deputies arrived, they found several shake and bake meth labs, although none were operational at the time. According to an arrest warrant, miscellaneous chemicals and cooking equipment used in the manufacturing of meth were found in the residence. Deputies then began to cleanup and process the meth labs and an outside contractor removed the chemicals.

Deputies arrested Roger Caness Martin Jr., 35, of Seneca, after he turned himself into authorities. Martin was charged with manufacturing meth and is being held at the Oconee County Detention Center.
