Spartanburg, SC -

A woman barely escaped serious injury before her car was struck by a train in Spartanburg County late Thursday afternoon.

Trooper Billy Elder of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that 35-year-old Lacey Parker, of Boiling Springs, disregarded a traffic control signal on the train tracks at the intersection of West Cleveland Street and Hayne Street. Parker managed to escape her car just before it was struck by a freight train. However, Parker was injured when she was struck by her vehicle after the train knocked it off the tracks and into her.

According to Elder, Parker was not seriously injured and was transported to the hospital. She was cited with disregarding a traffic control signal.

The collision caused streets in the area to be closed for an hour as crews worked to remove the car and debris.
