The Highway Patrol says one person is dead after an accident near Anderson Saturday morning.Troopers say it happened at 5:52 am Saturday about one mile east of Anderson.
They say a Pontiac traveling on US 76 crossed the centerline and hit a Hyundai head on.
The Anderson Independent Mail reports the driver of the Pontiac was identified by the Anderson County Coroner's Office as 41 year old Jacqueline Mullins.
They report the Coroner's Office there says Mullins suffered a broken neck and extensive chest trauma. They also say Mullins died about 15 minutes after the accident.
Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman tells the Independent Mail Mullins was traveling well above the speed limit and had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.
The Independent Mail also reports the driver of the Hyundai was in fair condition at AnMed and was being treated for possible neurological injuries, according to emergency room staff.
Troopers say both Mullins and the other driver were both wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
