Wofford Holds At 12th In FCS Rankings

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -

North Dakota State received all 26 first-place votes to regain a unanimous No. 1 ranking, while Coastal Carolina and Montana State both entered the top five in this week’s FCS Coaches Poll.

NDSU topped Missouri State 41-26 on Saturday to regain the No. 1 vote it lost to Towson in last week’s poll. Towson fell to Villanova 45-35 over the weekend, losing a first-place vote and the No. 2 ranking.

Sam Houston State is the new No. 2, moving up one spot and receiving 620 points from the coaches this week. Eastern Illinois (591) continues to climb the rankings, landing in third this week. Coastal Carolina entered the top 10 for the first time in 2013, moving to No. 4 this week. The Chanticleers handed Gardner-Webb a 42-7 loss to move to 6-0 on the year.

Montana State (522) and Eastern Washington (512) are No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, followed by Towson (465) in seventh. The Tigers dropped five spots following their 45-35 loss to Villanova. Undefeated Fordham earned its highest ranking of the year at No. 8 with 465 points.

Montana (425) and McNeese State (402) round out the top 10, with both teams moving up one spot from last week.

Villanova (356) is this week’s biggest mover, as the Wildcats jumped four spots in the poll after their win over Towson. Wofford (352) remains at No. 12 following its 31-27 win over Elon and Northern Iowa falls eight spots to No. 13 after being upset by Southern Illinois 24-17 in overtime.

Bethune-Cookman (314) moves back one spot to No. 14, followed by Youngstown State (286), Lehigh (275) and Maine (251). No. 18 South Dakota State, No. 19 James Madison, No. 20 Central Arkansas and No. 21 Northern Arizona hold the same spot in the rankings as last week, with all four teams earning wins on Saturday.

Tennessee State and New Hampshire swap places in the rankings, moving TSU to No 22 and UNH to No. 23. Charleston Southern stayed perfect on Saturday, defeating VMI 25-17 to move to 7-0 and a No. 24 spot in the poll. Harvard rounds out the rankings at No. 25 with 26 points and a 4-0 record.

Jacksonville State dropped out of the poll this week after being ranked No. 24 last week.

The FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.
