Man Killed By Anderson Co. Deputy On Drake Circle

ANDERSON, SC - The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Anderson County.

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said that deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Drake Circle, just outside the Anderson city limits. When the deputy arrived, he found a female victim outside in the yard. The deputy went to the home to search for the male suspect involved in the altercation and found the suspect identified as 24 year old Andrew Aldrich, along with another man inside.

According to Skipper, Aldrich has a prior criminal history with the sheriff's office and became combative and did not obey the deputy's instructions. Skipper said that the deputy pulled out a taser to subdue the man, but a scuffle ensued causing deputy to drop the taser. The suspect picked up the taser and pointed it at the deputy, Skipper said. The deputy fired his gun at the suspect, killing him.

A spokesman for SLED that they are sending investigators to the scene.

Skipper said that the deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave per proper protocol pending the completion of the investigation.
