WILMINGTON, NC -

An actor who starred in the 1996 Adam Sandler movie, "Happy Gilmore," was charged Wednesday with driving drunk in downtown Wilmington, according to state Highway Patrol officials.

Christopher McDonald, 58, is charged with driving while impaired. Troopers said McDonald's blood-alcohol level was 0.15, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08.

According to the Wilmington Star News, McDonald was taken into custody around 1:45 a.m. on Third Street. He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

McDonald played character Shooter McGavin in "Happy Gilmore". He was also the TV meteorologist in the movie "The Perfect Storm" and played a TV game show host in "Requiem For a Dream" and the movie "Quiz Show."

He recently appeared on the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire."
