An Anderson County Sheriff's deputy is suing the department alleging that his bosses threatened to retaliate against him if he continued to seek pay for maintaining his patrol dog.

According to our news coverage partners at the Anderson Independent-Mail. deputy Michael Creamer filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking reimbursement for the time he is required to train and maintain his German Shepherd patrol dog on days off. He also alleges that 12 hours of compensatory time was taken from him, in violation of sheriff's office policies, as punishment for seeking the wages, the newspaper reports.

According to the Independent-Mail, Creamer alleges that he and other canine handlers were told by a superior to stop asking for money because Sheriff John Skipper and Lieutenant Mike Binninger would retaliate against them by removing the dogs from the sheriff's office and getting rid of the, The lawsuit further alleges that a second supervisor, Lieutenant Josh Payne, told Creamer that he was aware the law was not being followed correctly, but "that's the way it had always been" at the sheriff's office.

The Independent-Mail reports that Skipper said he had not been served with the lawsuit and would not comment on the specifics of the lawsuit.
