Martha Childress received a phone call from a country music star as she continues to recover after being hit by a stray bullet near the USC campus.

Childress tweeted Wednesday that she heard from singer Hunter Hayes. Hayes is one of this year's CMT Artists of the Year.

Childress tweeted, "y'all @HunterHayes just called me!! I seriously have the most amazing family, friends and support group that anyone could ask for."

Martha is a recent graduate of J.L. Mann Academy in Greenville. She is a freshman at the University of South Carolina.

According to the victim's uncle, Jim Carpenter, Childress, 18, can't move from the hips down, and also suffered damage to her liver and her kidney.

Columbia Police report Michael Juan Smith, 20, was arguing with another man Saturday when he pulled out a handgun and fired two shots.

One bullet hit Childress. Smith is in jail on five charges.
