Ribbon cut on new Greenville emergency operations center

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Greenville's new emergency operations center is up and running.

City leaders cut the ribbon Thursday morning at the new facility. It's behind the fire station on 10th Street.

When it's not being used during emergencies, Pitt Community College will use it for training.

This is where leaders will gather to strategize emergency response, in times of crisis or severe weather.

The building can withstand 150 mile per hour winds.

"This facility will allow us to be able to get all of our key leaders together in case or a man made or natural disaster. Any major incident in the city of Greenville we'll be able to come here and coordinate those activities from this facility,” said Eric Griffin, interim fire chief.

FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security helped pay for it, while PCC provided the furniture.
