WEST UNION, SC -

The Mayor of an upstate town is under fire for comments she made on Facebook about homosexuals.

West Union Mayor Linda Oliver posted a comment on her personal page referencing homosexuals following the news that the Buncombe County Register of Deeds would accept Same-Sex marriage licenses. The comment, which was deemed as a slur to many, led to a Facebook page to recall her from office, although she later deleted the comment from her account.

"What's it gonna take to get these 'q-word' to realize they don't need a piece of paper," Oliver wrote. "God will not bless their union because He plainly speaks against 'q-word' in the Bible. Want to cover your 'q-word' with insurance? Buy a policy. Want your 'q-word' to get your stuff when you die? Make a will."

We attempted to get her side of the story, but numerous attempts to reach Oliver for comment were not successful.

We did some digging to determine if there is a law in South Carolina that would allow her to be recalled from office and determined there is not one. The only way an elected office can be recalled is by the authority of the Governor, which is not likely unless a crime has been committed.

7 On Your Side Investigations uncovered new documents that detail a “politically sensitive” proposal for overhauling the Greenville County EMS system. The plan would change the way ambulances respond in a 9-1-1 emergency and would give control of the life-saving service to the county's largest hospital chain, Greenville Health System.
