ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

A St. Petersburg teen has become a national sensation after standing up before a congregation at St. Mark Missionary Church in St Petersburg, and asking that "anyone" adopt him.

Davion's only mother died earlier this year but he's lived with foster families since he was born.

Now 15-years-old, Davion stays at a group home and in September he decided to proactively make his dream come true.

He spoke before the congregation at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, in St. Petersburg asking anyone to adopt him.

"It's been a couple of struggles here and there, couple of struggles," Davion said.

He was born in a prison, and he spent his entire life in the care of foster families.

"I've been through a lot so it really, I kind of got used to it."

The only family he's ever known was his mother.

She passed away earlier this year while in prison.

"When I found out she died, she was 55, so at that point I was grieving," he said.

Following her death, Davion's grandmother reached out to him.

"I didn't even know I had any family," he said. "All I knew was my mom, I really didn't even know her name."

While he hopes for a family, Davion says he has a plan either way.

"If  I did not have a family by the time I'm 18, I still have a college fund, if I still get the funds, and I would use that as an advantage to still have a chance at life to get my degree."

His quest to find a family of his own has garnered national attention.

The agency handling Davion's case, Eckerd Youth Alternatives, says they've been inundated with calls from around the country, asking to adopt young Davion.

As the story about 15 year old Davion Only floods the internet, the Heart Gallery of Pinellas and Pasco County say they have received hundreds of phone calls and email inquiries about Davion. Davion has been on the Heart Gallery since its inception in 2006, and is the reason Executive Director, Tiffany Faykus, decided to launch a new campaign called “Mission Possible” which focuses on the longest waiting children on the Heart Gallery.

“We are thrilled and humbled by the interest shown in this amazing young man”, says Tiffany Faykus, Executive Director of the Heart Gallery. “We have had over 300 inquiries in the past 24 hours alone and we are answering them as fast as we can as we seek to find the right family for Davion. We ask that you also consider one of the other wonderful children who, like Davion, are waiting for their forever families.”

On any given day, 140 children in Pinellas & Pasco county foster care are available for adoption. Our goal is to someday have "No waiting children", for we believe that there are no unwanted children, just unfound families. Every child deserves the chance to be safe, loved, and cared for—forever.
