One person is dead following a two-vehicle wreck near downtown Gaffney Monday.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says 66-year-old Ira Edward Turner of Gaffney was the victim.

Turner was headed south on Railroad Avenue around 7:30 a.m. when his vehicle was struck head-on by a truck which was headed north, according to investigators.

“Mr. Turner was trapped in the vehicle for a short time before being extricated by Gaffney Fire Department and EMS personnel,” Fowler said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
