A pharmacist from a North Carolina coastal town has been arrested on charges of pill diversion.
Deputies say 39-year-old Christine Busuttil Parker of Newport was charged with Embezzlement of a Controlled Substance by employee on Monday.
A four month investigation showed that over 40,000 pills were missing from Morehead City Pharmacy, where Parker worked as a pharmacist, authorities say.
The pharmacy touts itself as "Eastern Carolina's finest drug store for over 80 years."
An audit of her records over the past year and a half turned up the discrepancy, deputies say.
The Carteret County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing and additional charges and more arrests are possible.
Parker was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $2,500 bond. She's already had a first court appearance and has since posted bond.
Parker, who is originally from Ithaca, NY, according to Facebook and been employed at the Morehead City Pharmacy for the past four years.
Lawmen say her pharmaceutical license has been suspended and seized by the NC Board of Pharmacy.
