GREER, S.C. -

Governor Nikki Haley and the South Carolina Port Authority president toured the Inland Port in Greer Wednesday morning.

The port opened a week ago and is now operating, sending cargo back and forth to Charleston.

Haley says the site signals jobs.

"This is something you won't see in every other state,” said Haley. “This is something we are committed to in South Carolina, which is infrastructure. If you have infrastructure you have business. And if you have business you have jobs."

They hope to send more than 40,000 cargo shipments annually through the port.

The project ended up going $16 million over budget, due to the wet summer we had.

The state says companies will save money and they will come to the inland port to help their bottom line.

“The more they can produce, the more they can get out, the bigger they get and a great win for South Carolina,” said Haley.
