A fugitive from Kansas was arrested in Henderson County on Monday after he got into a struggle with residents at a home attempted to rob, deputies say.

According to our news coverage partners at the Hendersonville Times-News,  27-year-old Alexander Ray Shugart was arrested after a scuffle with residents at a home on Boulder Heights Lane in Hendersonville and a brief foot chase with Henderson County Sheriff's deputies. The newspaper reports that Shugart showed up at the home with a gun and threatened the residents and demanded their wallets. When they would not let him in, he kicked in the door, according to Major Frank Stout of the sheriff's office.

Once inside, one of the residents noticed that the gun Shugart was carrying appeared to be an air pistol or toy gun and they began to struggle. One of the residents called 911 while the other two held Shugart until deputies arrived.

Shugart struggled with deputies once they arrived at the home, and after a brief foot chase, he was apprehended. Stout stated that Shugart gave deputies several false names before they found out his real name and that he was wanted for felony burglary in Kansas.

Two deputies involved in the struggle with Shugart were sent to the hospital with minor injuries, Stout added.

Shugart was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and four counts of resisting a public officer. He is being held at the Henderson County Detention center where he is awaiting an extradition hearing.
