A man was caught on video stuffing a pricey sculpture from an upstate gallery into his shirt and walking out the door.

The sculpture was stolen from the Anderson Arts Center.

The sculpture was made by Greenville artist Zan Wells.

"I was like what? Somebody would just walk in and steal. How could anyone feel comfortable doing that," Wells said. "I love that piece because it is one of the first pieces that I've done"

According to the time stamp on the surveillance video the sculpture was stolen on October 7th.

The Arts Center says they didn't notice it was missing until an inventory audit on Tuesday.

"I guess I would just ask him what in the world was he thinking? How did he come up with that plan?" Wells said.

We checked with law enforcement across the upstate who tell us this is a unique crime, and that it's rare to see someone actually get away with a $5,000 sculpture.

"Hopefully he will still have the piece and it's ok," Wells said.
