Georgia's state government is considering investing in a reservoir that could send water downstream during dry spells into a lake at the center of a three-state dispute.

Gov. Nathan Deal's administration is weighing a request from Hall County to invest $14.6 million in the Glades Reservoir.

That money would only cover a small portion of the expenses for the $130 million project.

In return for partnering with Hall authorities, Georgia's government would get a supply of water that could be sent from the Glades Reservoir and into Lake Lanier, a federally run reservoir.

Deal's chief of staff, Chris Riley, said that extra water could then be used to supplement drought-parched waterways, ultimately making sure more water gets to Alabama and Florida. Florida has sued Georgia over its water use.
