GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. -

Six people were found dead after an apparent mass murder-suicide, according to the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Tony Davis held a news conference Wednesday afternoon to release additional details about the incident that started as a domestic dispute between the suspect and his girlfriend, who is also one of the victims.

According to Davis, Greenwood County received a 911 call from the suspected gunman just before 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The suspected gunman, later identified as Bryan Sweatt, told 911 operators that he wanted to hurt himself.

While deputies were responding to the call at the home off Callison Highway they received another 911 call from the next door neighbor.

"I just got four kids at my door that says somebody just killed their mama," the neighbor told dispatch.

On the 911 tapes the children can be heard in the background telling the neighbor that Sweatt told them to leave and that he had a gun. One child that was taken with the group is a 7-month-old baby. She's Sweatt's daughter with one of the victims Chandra Fields.

Greenwood SWAT was called to the home, as it was believed it was a hostage situation.

SWAT attempted to make contact for more than an hour, then entered the home.

They found six bodies including the suspect's; two males, two females, and two young boys. The victims have been identified as:

Richard Allen Fields, 51
Melissa Kay Fields, 49
Chandra Marie Fields, 26
Tariq Kenyon Robinson, 11
William Asa Robinson, 9

Authorities say Sweatt suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Sweatt's criminal record is quite lengthy, relating mostly burglary and theft incidents. We spoke with several people who know him, they tell us they're shocked.

"He's not always been a bad person, way back when he'd give you shirt off his back if he had to," says Leslee Ashley, Sweatt's cousin.

Violent Crimes and The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have been called in to assist. The investigation continues.

We have several crews working on this story. Keep checking back for updates.
