Bingaman worked for the Asheville Police Department for six years.  He was a member of the Traffic Safety Unit.

Rev. Clark Henderson, pastor of Newbridge Baptist Church led the 50 minute service.

Bingaman's daughter Hailie sang "Amazing Grace."

Asheville Police Chief William Anderson also spoke during the service.  He said Officer Bingaman died doing his job, serving his community, doing what he loved.

The chief also said his department will learn from this tragedy.

Bingaman will be remembered as a hero. Anderson says he paid the ultimate sacrifice.

So far this year, 87 officers have died while on duty across the country.

Bingaman is the first death in North Carolina in 2013.  An Horry County Sheriff's deputy was killed in May.  A K-9 named Shadow also died on June 18.  The dog belonged to Hanahan Police Department.  You can see more of the statistics here.
