COLUMBIA, S.C. -

A former University of South Carolina running back has been injured in a shooting in the Midlands Monday.

Sgt. Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office says Kenny Miles was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.  He as been upgraded to stable condition.

Authorities found Miles suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body around 1 p.m. in a parking lot in Irmo, just outside of Columbia.

Investigators think the motive was robbery.  According to the Associated Press, Miles was able to give investigators a description of the person who shot him, but no arrests have been made.

Miles graduated in 2012 from South Carolina with a degree in criminal justice.  He ran for 1,341 yards on 315 carries, backing up Marcus Lattimore for most of his career.
