Some Hartwell Lake Boat Ramps, Campgrounds Closing

HARTWELL LAKE, S.C. -
The Army Corps of Engineers reports park operations and visitor services will be reduced at Hartwell Lake in 2014 because of budget cuts.

The Corps will close one campground and five day use areas on Hartwell Lake and four campgrounds on Thurmond Lake during the 2014 recreation season.

Stephens Country Day Use Area, Fair Play Day Use Area and Lawrence Bridge Access will close January 1 on Lake Hartwell. Mullins Ford Day use Area, Milltown Campground and Long Point Day use Area will also close.

In addition, the Corps will partially close two day-use areas on Hartwell Lake and two day use areas and two campgrounds on Thurmond Lake.

The Poplar Springs and Weldon Island Day Areas will close, but the boat ramps will remain open.

The Corps will continue to operate eight campgrounds, 10 day use areas and 28 boat ramp/access areas on Hartwell Lake.
