An arrest has been made in a 1996 murder in Transylvania County.

Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney announced that Michael Owen, 63, of Brevard, was arrested and charged with the murder of Edna Eloise Glaze. According to Mahoney, investigators received new information that led to Owen being identified as a suspect and subsequently charged.

"Everyone involved in this case has been committed to seeing it through," said Mahoney.

Glaze was reported missing on March 19, 1996 after she was last seen near the Brevard Music Center. Investigators with the sheriff's office and the Brevard Police Department conducted an extensive search, but Glaze was not found and the case grew cold. Mahoney said the new information, which was not disclosed to protect the integrity of the case, helped breath new life into the case.

"We have never forgotten about Ms. Glaze," Mahoney said.

Owen is being held at the Transylvania County Detention Center without bond.

7 On Your Side Investigations uncovered new documents that detail a “politically sensitive” proposal for overhauling the Greenville County EMS system. The plan would change the way ambulances respond in a 9-1-1 emergency and would give control of the life-saving service to the county's largest hospital chain, Greenville Health System.
