One person is dead after a head-on collision in Spartanburg County Wednesday night.

The wreck happened at 7:55 p.m. on Peachtree Road, just west of the town of Chesnee.

According to Trooper Billy Elder of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Gala Nicole Bagwell was traveling south on Peachtree Road when she ran off the right side of the road, over corrected and came back onto the road and crossed into the path of an SUV driven by 22-year-old Andrew Giles, of Columbus, North Carolina.

Bagwell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Elder.

Giles and the two passengers in the vehicle, a 21-year-old woman and nine-month-old child were transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital due to their injuries. They were wearing seatbelts.

Elder said that the accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
