Firefighters are working to contain a blaze burning in the Linville Gorge Wilderness area in the mountains of western North Carolina.

The U.S. Forest Service said Tuesday afternoon that the fire had burned about 40 acres in the Grandfather Ranger District of the Pisgah National Forest.

About 20 forest service firefighters and others are working to contain the Burke County blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The forest service says the fire is threatening one camp area.

No injuries have been reported.

The forest service canceled a proscribed burn that had been planned in another part of Burke County.
